Team Development – Use TIFF to build trust and effective communication

Team Development – Use TIFF to build trust and effective communication

A newly put-together team in a large organisation used TIFF as a way to develop their team effectiveness. They all did the TIFF questionnaire, each had individual feedback, then they came together for a workshop. They used the ‘TIFF for TEAMS’ structure to share their insights from TIFF, their personal plans for change and to request help from each other for putting the plans into practice to enhance the working of the team. At the end of the workshop, team members gave the following feedback: This has enabled us to discuss things we’ve needed to talk about for a long time. “What’s more, we’ve been able to have these conversations now in a way that’s felt safe and respectful of each other and entirely positive. It has given us a structure and a language that makes talking about tough stuff feel liberating and constructive. What’s great is that, now we have it, we can use this approach to continue talking with each other about these things so long as we need to.”

Business Consultant – TIFF shows how to rebalance your energy output

Business Consultant – TIFF shows how to rebalance your energy output

My client was a successful business consultant at a mature stage in his career. He was feeling that working life was becoming more and more stressful and having just celebrated a ‘significant birthday’ time was passing all too quickly. He realised that somewhere along the way he had lost his sense of fun and adventure and he felt ‘flat’. When he did his TIFF things became much clearer as he could see how much time and energy he put into keeping up with business life. He could see how a bit more careful planning and saying “no” to certain requests from colleagues could help him use his time more productively. His realisation that restoring a work life balance would help him to feel energised in all areas of life was a helpful awareness raising exercise.

New Career Direction – Reflection with TIFF to create a new work/life balance

New Career Direction – Reflection with TIFF to create a new work/life balance

C had recently been made redundant and wanted to explore new career direction and boost his self-confidence to enhance future employment prospects. A psychometric assessment with a focus on career preferences was undertaken alongside TIFF. C felt that TIFF had given him the opportunity to stand back and review his life, especially given his new role as a parent. He commented, “TIFF allowed me to understand myself better and to look to change my career path to better fit with the things that are now important in my life.” Subsequently C took up employment within the industry in which he had experience, but in a role that offered flexibility of hours to spend time with his family.

Encourage Cooperation – Use TIFF to learn how to value assertiveness

Encourage Cooperation – Use TIFF to learn how to value assertiveness F was 20 years old and training to be a mentor in a small private business. She noticed that she was having a problem trying to deal with her mentee who was not really interested in engaging in the mentoring process. F knew she needed to make an impact whilst simultaneously supporting her mentee to focus on her own developmental needs, but felt ‘stuck’. Having undertaken her TIFF, F came to understand the difference between useful ways to encourage cooperation between people and some not so useful ways. She realised that when she focused on being more assertive in her approach she was more likely to get better results.

Finding The Way Ahead – Use TIFF as a coaching tool

Finding The Way Ahead – Use TIFF as a coaching tool

As a coach, I seek to raise awareness, facilitate choices and enhance trust. Functional Fluency and TIFF are great tools for doing this. One recent client was managing a university department. She wanted to use our coaching sessions to help her become a better manager, balancing the needs of her staff with the other demands of her job. Sharing the Functional Fluency model with her raised her awareness of the range of behaviours that were likely to produce positive outcomes. Doing TIFF helped her to see the choices she could make between effective and ineffective behaviours. It gave her the confidence to trust her managerial skills because it showed that, most of the tiem, her behaviour was already effective. She also learned to identify what triggered her into using negative ways of behaving sometimes, and she was able to work out ways to avoid this.

Domestic Abuse – Use TIFF for a boost to morale

Domestic Abuse – Use TIFF for a boost to morale A young woman victim of domestic abuse undertook TIFF as part of a programme to support her in regaining her self-esteem and enhancing her confidence to move on in her life. She commented that the exploration of her TIFF profile had emphasised that “the positive aspects were stronger than I had believed possible, which boosted my self-worth. It has given me encouragement to work on both positive and negative aspects of my behaviour – I have a brighter outlook of who I am.”
